I have spent the better part of my life living in the same house, with my parents, in the same town where my mother grew up, where it has been comfortable and peaceful for me. I love it here. I don't have to deal with traffic; I will always know at least one person at the local grocery store; I can sleep outside in the summer, should I want to; there are more stars than I can count; all of my friends grew up here with me; I can spend my free time next to the pool in the sunshine--Vitamin D is incredibly important (I even wrote a research paper on it once).
As much as I adore my current surroundings, I know that we can never become all that we have the potential to be if we allow ourselves to remain in our comfort zone. If everything currently works, why change it? You may be asking. Because, what if something else is 1000 times better for me? What if the opportunity of a lifetime is just a state away? What if I find out that I really don't like living in a small town after all? What if I never define myself outside of the confines of North Georgia?
I would never really know if I wasn't willing to take a chance, which is the only chance I am not willing to take. I am not willing to allow myself to remain here forever, following the typical pattern of life and never realizing my full potential. I am much too awesome for that and the rest of the country could probably use a little more Erica in its life. And who am I to withhold such honors? (Also, I am extremely modest) (On a side note, make sure you are always your biggest fan. If you can't describe how wonderful you are, in your own way, why would anyone else try? Just don't go overboard with it, no one likes the person who cannot fit their head through the door frame.)

So, my lovelies, it has been decided I will be moving, with Boy to attend school in Virginia (not too far, but a good 12-hour drive). We will live with his precious grandparents at first, until we can find our footing, then we will rent an apartment and be on our own.
I want to attend George Mason University to earn a Masters in Economics (the degree I almost pursued in lieu of Political Science) and hopefully work at or near the school. It will probably take me a while to get thorough the program, since I am bound and determined to not take on any debt in the process--it is possible, it just takes patience. Boy wants to earn another Bachelor's in Music, so we will both be attending.
We plan to move in about a month and a half, so there is much to get in order before we pack up and head out. I will keep you updated and any tips on traveling and moving that you have will be greatly appreciated!! I will keep you all filled in on the progress--I am so unbelievably excited!
Have you ever moved away from everything you have ever known? What was it like? Are you happy that you did it? Is there anything you would have done differently?
I love your comments!!
